The Militant Masters

Rave/Oldskool

N/A

A hard, hectic mashup of 1993 Basement Records style darkcore with pounding 4 to the floors and rolling amen breaks. In the same vein as stuff produced by Wax Doctor and Jack Smooth back in the UK's darkside days. This was produced by myself and two other guys who are well up on their oldskool and are total sample masters, shout going out to Jay P. & Ed for the help in producing this one. We definitely wanna get this released in the future.

Yeaahhh! Well done that man Mark Heath for producing another top pumpin' oldskool styled tune. This one is a ferocious, angry, harsh piece of '92 style Easygroove jungle techno weighing in at a hammering 160bpm. I've had a listen to the remix which is damn good as well in a more banging housey kind of style but I love the raw power of this original hardcore belter. Lots of angry samples going off here there and everywhere about the downside of modern computer technology. I've got to be perfectly honest, after 6 or so years of working with them I'm inclined to agree to some extent. Now where's that damn mouse thing gone!?!

Back Into Time New

Electric Tribe

Breakbeat/Breaks

Ectopic Beatz

Electric Tribe are an innovative, experimental breakbeat duo who are based over in Essex, London (home of the hardcore). If you check out the mix page you'll find some more of their slammin' tracks on my second hardcore breaks mix. This one is more of a heavily oldskool based nuskool breakbeat track which just sounds so so fresh every time I listen to it. Perfect piano riffs which are never too obvious and don't detract from the moody nature of the tune. Definitely my favourite tune at the moment at the slower end of the breakbeat spectrum, this one could've easily been a floorfiller back in 1991. Has elements of SL2's 'Djs take Control' and Cubic 22 'Night in Motion'. Reminds me of that year when rave was such a buzz just before it hit the mainstream, massive respect to DLB and Penfold for turning out such a blinder.

There's some real talent out there and this guy is the cream of the crop as far as I'm concerned. Just listen to the sheer brilliance of this piece, pure 1993 style oldskool breakbeat but with more modern production. The tune kicks of on a bright note with a mellow ambient d'n'b section before progressing into a fast, uplifting Dj Seduction style roller with loads of energy and rush factor. The vocals are used discordantly which give a subtley dark edge to an uplifting tune, perfect for the 1993 heads!

I'm giving you a real treat on this update, not an average tune in sight here today! This one seems to be going down a bomb with people at the moment and you don't have to be a pop idol judge to see why, hehe! No, no commercialism round here, only the best in underground dance music. This one will be an anthem if and when it gets a release, spot on in every which way possible, taking a classic vocal sample and sticking it over some frantic pianos and breakbeats in true oldskool style. So damn good I've even started singing it in the shower, I'll have to watch it though as the neighbours do give me some odd looks these days. No harm done, honest! Anyway, check this out!

I always loved that '91 track 'Sensory Deception' by MK13 (check over in the oldskool section) and decided that I would try and do something with the main stab melody from that track. Here I've given it a reworking into a completely new track with some modern, trancey filters and lots of stompy breakbeats and 4/4s in a '91/'92 style. I'm well into the up and down hoover section and the rap vocals, could be a touch more ferocious but I like it as a nice intelligent breakbeat hardcore track. See what you think.

Feel So Good Inside New

Dj Sparky

Rave/Oldskool

?

Here's yet another anthemic oldskool tune from this brilliant artist, same style as the one above except maybe a bit more traditional in the oldskool genre. Hard ring-mod rave synths and huge, yummy pianos typical of the best '92 tunes. Personally I think this is even better than some '92 oldskool itself, a perfect example of how this genre is in no way just about memories from the past. Breakbeat hardcore for 2003 and I'm loving it, 9.5/10! Up there with the best of them.

Uplifting Oldskool House

Different, is how I would describe this one. Quite uplifting but also quite funky. It has a definite oldskool house sound with those bouncy rhythms and laid back pianos but combines quite a few different styles of house, from progressive to deep to uplifting. See what you think.

An uplifting oldskool breakbeat track created with Reason. Not that hardcore for a '92 style tune but I like the happier side of things so I am very into this track. Quite simple in terms of structure and melodies but a lot going on nonetheless. This would be a nice tune to drop in the middle of a hard '92 set to add a lighter touch.

Artificial Reality

Progressive House

N/A

My remix of a tune originally produced by an artist on acidplanet.com called ‘Artificial Reality’. I’m quite pleased with this little remix as a whole. I took a few basic ideas from the original tune and added a more progressive sounding beat, some new riffs and a neat vox sample. This sounds quite different from the original as I gave the thing a complete overhaul. I have to say, Artificial Reality’s version is far more original but this is very club friendly and although running at a mere 125bpm it is very danceable.

Not your typical garage offering here as Dj Coolbreeze serves us up something quite a bit harder. This is a tune which has really grown on me! Great 'Azzido da Bass' sampling and crazy discordant oldskool riffs. Excellent production on this one as well with good use of FX and reverb. Not particularly trancey IMO but a well used classic trance synth in an oldskool style. Top tune Mark!

Hanging On New

Dj Rushout

Rave/Oldskool

Phase 4

My ultimate Dj Rushout tune which I first laid my ears on back in November 2002 in a dj mix by the man himself (which will hopefully be up here on this site soon). Has that slightly distant, yet penetrating minor key vibe of Broken Codes with some hard, rushy Inner City 'Big Fun' style piano chords and some menacing Altern8 stabs which come in at around 2.50 which take the track into orbit. Also some very original vocal sampling going on here which is very nice to see, as opposed to sticking with tried and tested sounds. Taking breakbeat hardcore through solidly into this new millenium.

Oh my God! It's 1992 all over again with this little cracker from the man like Toby Jones who goes under the production alias 'Teknotik'. Some fantastic breakdowns going on left, right and centre here and those crazy sirens are making me wanna get one of those illuminous Altern8 jackets that I've always dreamed of. Hard to believe that this was all produced and mixed in good old Fruityloops, it sounds very professional with lots of sweeping pads and trancey synths intermingling to make the perfect tune. Brilliant work! It would be a crime not to release this!

A typical ’92 rave tune with hoovers and distorted piano synths. Not very original but I like it all the same. This one uses my favoured combination of four to the floors and breaks and is quite a hardcore tune. Not yet available as an mp3 but I might release it in that format soon if all goes well. A mixture of dark and uplifting vibes in this tough piece of oldskool breakbeat. A few timestretched vocals and ruff bass stabs thrown in for good measure. Check this one out if you like your late '92 style sound, it uses some classic breakbeats and oldskool jungle style build-ups and snare rolls. I'm quite pleased with it on the whole and would consider a release if the opportunity comes up.

I Wanna New

Electric Tribe

Rave/Oldskool

Ectopic Beatz

Now this one is just rocking my world. No holds barred original jungle techno from Electric Tribe once again. very different to Back into Time, this one is pure '93 rawness, yet sounds so damn fresh and original. Starts of with some sleazy, sinister saxophone riffs and get even darker from there on crunching head on into full force breakbeats and hoovers with some lush d'n'b pads and aggressive ragga shouts raging through the darkness. For me the most un-nerving aspect of this one is the 'I wanna be your angel' vocals which are somehow quite evil and scary amongst all that darkcore mayhem. If you told me that this was from 4 Hero back in the day I would've believed you, pure damn brilliance even if it does give me some bloodclaat nightmares. Listen!

Some crazy oldskool hoover hardcore here, once again from Coolbreeze. Again, some good production, a wicked, catchy little riff in the middle and that classic Energizer 1 breakbeat. The hoovers are very harsh and noisey so not for the faint hearted. I reckon it could go on for a bit longer though with a few new bits & bobs added, still it's a nice, well produced & well timed tune with plenty of mad oldskool flavour.

Another one from me, some typical '92 style stuff with that classic 'Urban Shakedown - Some Justice' breakbeat. The vocals here were actually sung by my sister Jen and sampled and sped up by me. I like the rushy '92 style riffs in this one especially the one which comes in at around 2:08 so I'm sticking it up here for you to listen to. This is slightly shorter than most of my tunes as I usually like to fill at least 5-6 minutes but I like it anyway, see what you think.

One of my best efforts in terms of oldskool breaks. This one reached no. 9 on the mp3.com rave/oldskool charts and is very popular among Bassquake followers. I’ve used some nice chopped up breakbeat loops and plenty of classic old hardcore synths. This one is available to download from my site at mp3.com an is featured on my album ‘Innovation’.

One of my better trance efforts although it doesn’t conform to the usual conventions of trance. Bleepy riffs and arps and hard basslines. Quite energetic yet it would be a good tune to finish off a set (so I’m told). A bit of psytrance, a few simple melodies and a nice thumping beat.

My hardest recently produced oldskool track running at 160bpm with heavily compressed phasing amen breaks and a thumping 909 kickdrum. Again a few darker elements are present with more uplifting bits included as a contrast. This one's gone down well over on B2VOS and is another possible release, it needs touching up in places but the raw essentials of the tune are definitely there.

I thought I'd make something quite out of the ordinary this time and this is the result. A haunting trancey oldskool breakbeat tune with some crazy hard breakdowns to counterbalance the dreamy ambience. Hard to believe really but I got the main influence for this while flicking through the menu on Sky Digital and noticed that the background music was very oldskool sounding breaks with trancey melodies and production. Unbelieveable what you can stumble across by accident sometimes. Gonna be checking out the BBC test card next for other cool jingles, LOL, what are these people on!?

I'm quite pleased with this little house jingle so far although i do think that it needs some vocals to add more emphasis to the main melody. I'm hopefully going to get a friend of mine who can sing to write and perform a few verses and a chorus for me, we'll just have to see how it goes. I could try singing the vocals myself but I wouldn't want my ISP to label this site a public health hazard and shut it down, LOL, so I'll think I'll leave it up to you Rox whenever you're ready to give it a go.

Some ruff '93 style jungle darkcore here from the talented 'Teknotik'. Growling subbase, mash-up amens and a top use of that old 'Some Justice' sample make this a true, authentic piece of oldskool hardcore jungle. The police sirens in this remind me of 'Splash - Babylon' (top oldskool jungle tune) and the hard stabs and dark pads give it that supreme darkcore vibe. Once again, superb, pro-sounding production!

Harder, faster oldskool this time running at around 150bpm. Again made with Reason and mastered with T-Racks 24. Rough edged breakbeats and stab patterns and a growling, heavy bassline give this one all the necessary elements for a '92/'93 style track. Seems to be going down well with people at the moment so I would consider releasing this in the future if all goes well.
